#ThursdayThought – Done Beats Perfect
David Taylor Klaus, noted coach and leadership mindset teacher, emphasizes the saying “Done Beats Perfect”, to allow people to move forward without having to be paralyzed by the disease of perfection.
When we think through this principle it’s interesting to note a few observations:
- Some of the most successful people just acted, started their business and improved their business model as they went. Many of them admitted that had they waited, their golden opportunity would have either passed or never come to fruition.
- Many of those same people are sought after speakers. They are not polished as the coached corporate speakers, and instill more relatability and action from their speaking as they just get it done from the heart, not from the textbook of Toastmasters.
- It’s where the typical creative department bogs down processes. According to Gary Vaynerchuk, when creative gets democratized, messages come quicker and are more relatable to the audience
- In the same vein, a carefully constructed social media post or ad campaign that airs in calculated times or platforms will not be nearly as effective as the less-than-perfect post or ad that has increased speed, increased frequency, and increased realism that appeals to the true audience
Many times the project or content is ready. It’s just the creator that’s not. Coach DTK helps us to re-frame that mindset to what’s really impactful and important.
Done beats perfect every time. So what can you implement today that can make an impact now?
